North-east may be popular 2010 walking holiday destination

North-east England is enjoying a surge in popularity when it comes to holidays in 2010,according to tourism expert iknow-uk.

Those seeking walking, camping and bike riding trips in the UK this year could be among the increasing number of people opting for the north-east as their destination.

According to the site, 12% of those taking a break in the UK now select the north-east.

Marcus Simmons, iknow-uk's Managing Director, said: ‘From castles and famous bridges to stunning natural landscapes with Roman and Norman World Heritage Sites, the north-east has enough tourist attractions to rival those of any country in the world.’

NorthumberlandNational Park may be one of the key features of the region attracting walking fans as well as a number of unspoilt beaches, which could be perfect for those on a hiking holiday.

The Northumberland National Park is made up of 1 048 sq km of moors, countryside and walking trails, with its highest point 815 m above sea level.

Buy maps for the main tourist areas in Great Britain such as the Brecon Beacons, the Lake District, the Peak District, the Isle of Skye,Suffolk and Devon.
