Walking and cycling enthusiasts in Lake District could visit exhibition
03 February 2010
People on walking and camping holidays in the Lake District may wish to pick u
p an Ordnance Survey map and locate an exhibition that is currently displaying artefacts from 12 000 years of history in the area.
Lake District National Park Authority spokeswoman Eleanor Kingston suggested that the event could be ideal for anybody interested in the past.
She said: ‘It's already gone down well at other libraries and museums around the county. We are hoping to reach as many people as possible
and encourage them to be aware of the past and its influences on our lives today.’
The exhibition is running in Whitehaven Library until 8 March.
It could provide visitors to England's largest National Park with a rare distraction from the walking trails and cycling routes that weave through the rural landscape.
The Lake District is set in 2292 sq km of countryside in northern England and features 15 lakes – the largest of which can be found at Windermere.
Buy maps for the main tourist areas in Great Britain such as the Brecon Beacons, the Lake District, the Peak District, the Isle of Skye, Suffolk and Devon.
