School set to take teaching outdoors
02 July 2009
Pupils at a school in Scotland are set to get new facilities aimed at encouraging them to enjoy the outdoors while at school, it has been reported.
According to the Largs & Millport Weekly News, St Mary's Primary School in the area is to launch a call for sponsorship.
The school aims to raise enough money to revamp its outdoor facilities and make an eco-development where the children can grow vegetables and observe wildlife.
Chairman of the Parent Council Louise McCarron said that the redevelopment was aimed at ‘promoting health, fitness, awareness of the environment and general outdoor fun’.
Included in the plans is an all-weather surface for sport, a climbing wall, a timber trim trail obstacle course and an outdoor classroom.
Scotland is home to a number of places ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities, including walking trails the West Highland way and the Great Glen way.
